Labor Mission Work

A MISSION FIELD IN THE SKY

My friend calls me a mission worker in the sky. After graduating college with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, the last thing I expected was to become a flight attendant. Yet here I am. My typical day involves welcoming people on flights, ensuring they are safe, and serving them drinks and food. However, the Holy Spirit thrives on interrupting my routine to make Jesus’ name known. So I try to obediently act on these heart tugs, even when I’m miles off the ground and confined inside an airplane. There is an unspoken bond between flight attendants that allows us to share our life stories with one another while we’re working. I have shared my faith journey, given advice, and have listened to others’ stories during these instances. I also like to share my love and appreciation for other flight attendants. If I’m personally taking a long flight somewhere, it’s my mission to make the crew feel recognized and loved. Bags of chips, chocolate bars, minty gum, and herbal teas are given to the flight attendants as I board the plane, along with a hand-written thank you note. Such a simple gesture goes a long way and for many of these crew members, it’s a huge blessing! I have given encouraging notes to help brighten up the day of upset passengers. Even drivers to the airport do not go unseen and give me the biggest smile when I hand them a genuine thank you note. I like to take trips for the purpose of serving others. I have flown to Spain to spiritually pour into some missionary friends. I’ve also taken a month-long trip to Australia and New Zealand, where I volunteered with various churches and ministries. I have flown to the east and west coast of the United States many times to help others who are involved with Christian ministries. I love using my flight benefits for the sake of serving others. I feel honored and humbled that God is using me to plant seeds of faith. Showing the love of Christ is possible wherever you are and to whoever you may meet, even if it’s high in the sky!

    What an inspiring story!
Robert, you have a lot to be proud of! This furlough has not taken God by surprise. He has something greater than you and Rachel could have imagined in store for her next! How exciting to see what He unfolds!

Wow this brings a whole new light to “spreading the gospel”, and I love it. @Robert Taylor, the Lord is only going to take her to another “altar”, because there’s still so much He wants her to do. God bless and keep you both.

This is amazing!! I have been offered to attend UA FA training in a couple months and although being a flight, attendant has been a dream of mine all my life, I wonder if it will be a hindrance to my walk with God or to my calling to ministry now. Do you find that it has been hard to stay connected? With a crazy schedule I won’t be able to go to church routinely or serve as much as I am used to. However missions world wide would be amazing!
How was the intro period for you?
